International Adventure Therapy History Project

Updated: 21 April, 2005

This project attempts to chronicle the history of adventure therapy as it was collected from a keynote address at the 2nd International Adventure Therapy conference in Augsburg Germany in March, 2000.  As facilitators, Simon Priest and I (Lee Gillis) placed several historical events (below) in front of the audience and asked that they respond with their own knowledge about historical events in adventure therapy. What we present below are both the stimulus items and some of the results.

Building an accurate international history of adventure therapy is a project that requires input from numerous sources.

Below are links the 3 tables which include significant events in the history or adventure programming, psychotherapy, and adventure therapy.

Please feel free to add, comment upon, or correct events that have been placed in this list.
